The farm boy who captured light in a bottle. ๐Ÿ“บ๐Ÿง  This distinguished bust captures Philo Taylor Farnsworth (1906โ€“1971) โ€“ the American inventor who conceived the world's first all-electronic television system at the age of just 14 . On September 7, 1927, at the age of 21, Farnsworth successfully transmitted the first electronic television image: a simple straight line . Despite a decade-long legal battle with RCA and its powerful president David Sarnoff, Farnsworth's patents were upheld in 1935, establishing him as the undisputed inventor of electronic television . His legacy is so profound that the average television set today contains about 100 of his patented inventions . Perfect for home offices, studies, scientific collections, and lovers of innovation.

Philo Farnsworth was born on August 19, 1906, in a log cabin in Indian Springs, Utah, on an isolated homestead with no radio, telephone, or electricity . As a young boy, he loved reading Popular Science magazine and science books, and by age 12 he had built an electric motor and assembled the first electric washing machine his family ever owned .

    The Eureka Moment:
While plowing a potato field at age 14, Farnsworth noticed the straight, parallel lines created by the horse-drawn harrow and suddenly envisioned a system that would break an image into horizontal lines and reassemble them into a picture at the other end . He realized that only an electronic system could scan and assemble images fast enough for television . That same year, he sketched his idea for an "image dissector" on the chalkboard for his high school chemistry teacher, Justin Tolman โ€“ a drawing that would prove invaluable years later in his patent battle with RCA .

After dropping out of Brigham Young University following his father's death in 1924, Farnsworth convinced investors to fund his work . With his wife Elma ("Pem") by his side, he established a laboratory in San Francisco :

September 7, 1927 โ€“ Transmitted the first all-electronic television image: a straight line

September 3, 1928 โ€“ Publicly demonstrated his system to reporters, broadcasting the image of a dollar sign

1928 โ€“ His wife became the first human being to appear on television

Legal Battle โ€“ RCA launched a lengthy series of court cases to invalidate Farnsworth's patents

The Crucial Evidence โ€“ Farnsworth's high school chemistry teacher produced the 1922 sketch, proving Farnsworth's priority

1935 Victory โ€“ The U.S. Patent Office ruled Farnsworth the "undisputed inventor of television"

1939 Settlement โ€“ RCA agreed to pay Farnsworth royalties for his patents, the first time RCA ever paid royalties to another company
