Torture and mutilation – Cutting off lips and ears, ripping out beating hearts, and forcing prisoners to eat them

The Wright Galley incident – Captured Portuguese passengers including two friars, who were "triced up at each arm of the foreyard, before they were quite dead"

A Portuguese captain's fate – Had his lips cut off and broiled before his face for dropping gold overboard; his entire crew of 32 was then murdered
