He became a high school teacher in Cologne in 1817 and, using primitive equipment of his own creation, determined that the current flowing through a wire is proportional to its cross-sectional area and inversely proportional to its length . In 1827, he published his groundbreaking work, The Galvanic Circuit Investigated Mathematically, which established the fundamental relationship between voltage, current, and resistance .
